LBCarCo Chatter - Customer Story, LBCarCo For Fun Top 3 Contest, Don't forget to add your 2005 British Event
Story from the files of Tom Baker! While living in Japan for the first time, I was fortunate enough to have a 72 MGB. Typically in Japan, old items are discarded and replaced frequently, including cars. So seeing an old B, TR6, and the like is rare in certain areas, including mine. My B proved to be relatively reliable over the 3 years that I drove it, but it drank lots of gas. The gas stations here are a lot like the full service stations of yesteryear. Pull in, have your oil, tire pressure checked, and have your windshield cleaned. Sometimes they will even clean out the inside of your car, too! The funny thing is, that every time I would pull in for gas, the teenage attendants could never locate the fuel door and could therefore never fill up the tank. Almost every time I had to exit the car, walk around to the rear and open the fuel cap! You would have thought I'd invented the wheel when I showed them how to fill the tank. To save face, the stations would typically offer me some sort of item to apologize for not knowing how to open the gas cap. I enjoyed lots of 'free' soft drinks and I still have a box full of coffee mugs that make me chuckle every time I see them.
Thanks Tom ($20.00 will be credited to your LBCarCo account) Please contact us ASAP for further info.
This week while I was sitting around the LBCarCo computer I was wondering why the order rate dropped off this past week. (Please send lots of orders - OK ;))) I talked to some of my suppliers and they too had found that the past week was a bit slower than normal too. Well being that we always like to have a little fun with our customers and love to get feedback Jan and I decided it my be fun to have our own Top "whatever list." Letterman's famous Top 10 list is great, but the folks that write them are professionals and they can put together a new list every night of 10 items. Of course we are just normal out there in LBCland so let's try a LBCarCo Top 3 list. The topic is: The Top 3 Reasons why I have put off doing work (and of course ordering parts) on/for my LBC this week, month etc. Jan and I will review them and the ones that make us laugh the most will be reprinted here next weekend. Rules... There are none other than they must be emailed to LBCarCoNews@LBCarCo.com with a subject of LBCarCo Top 3. You can enter as often as you like, but we must receive your email entry no later than 11:59PM EST, Saturday February 5th. The Top 3 Entries that are printed in the LBCarCo Chatter will each receive a $20 LBCarCo Purchase Credit to apply to your next LBCarCo Online Order.
Don't forget: If your club has a British Car Event to post please have someone from your club visit our Events Page and click on the Add Event button and enter the details of the event. Once this is done and reviewed it will be posted on our events page. We also forward the events posted on our site to a couple of other websites for their inclusion.

Vintage Advert Prices Still a Great Value - Increasing Next Week (Our first increase since March of 2002)
These adverts have been extremely popular since we have been providing them. LBCarCo's Exclusive Vintage Ads are available on our website for only $9.00 each, three or more for $8.00 each this week (sorry but these prices apply to ads that are presently in stock ONLY.) Orders placed after 11:59PM EST on Sunday, February 6, 2005 the price will be increased to $11 each or 3 or more for $10.00 each
. These are reproductions of original ads from the 50's, 60's, 70's and 80's for our LBC's and British Motorcycles that have been enlarged to make them suitable for framing. They are all approx. 11 x 14 inches and are shipped rolled to you on heavy quality paper. Alas we have absorbed several price increases over the past 3 years and over a 25% loss in the strength of the US dollar so we have been forced to increase our price. We have added several New Vintage Ads which you will find on our site though these are only available at the new pricing structure, though they still may appear at the present pricing on our site.We also have a nice British Motorbike and US Vintage Car ad section so have a look. We will be shipping these ads both from the UK and the USA to cover our customers needs more efficiently and this will also allow us to maintain a complete stock for shipment at most times. If you know of a vintage ad you would like to see in our section sooner than later let us know. We would need the car featured as well as the descriptive text from the ad so we can locate it in the archives.

Non Canceling Turn Indicators?
Ever since I bought my 1970 MGB BL the left turn indicator would not always
cancel. To understand how the indicator mechanism works I jacked the front
wheels off the ground and place the car on suitable jacks. It is then easy to
remove the cover on the steering column and observe how the mechanism works
while sitting in the car.

Two hours later and after trying different techniques I found that removing the
indicator mechanism and placing the right size elastic band over the two outside
levers of the indicator mechanism was enough to bring them back in contact with
the cam on the steering column when straightening the front wheels.
I am not sure how long the elastic band will work but it has solved the problem
for now. In the mean time I am looking for a suitable size o-ring which should
be more permanent.
