LBCarCo Chatter - Mardi Gras...First Event of the Year in Boca Raton

Yesterday was our Michigan Rowdies AGM when about 30 people braved the cold and snow for our potluck, event planning and meeting. Whoa it is really cold in Detroit today (Sunday). I was up early to head to the Metro Triumph Riders monthly meeting at 8AM and it was 9 degrees. When I left it was 4 degrees at 11AM. It is still getting colder as our first really cold wave hits the Detroit area this season.

I returned from Florida on Friday with son Aaron in tow. We spent a few days in the warmth doing some stuff to Tabby the Jag to get her ready for Miss Jan when she is down there next week.

While we were in Florida I attended the annual Dunedin Mardi Gras parade and marched in it as a member of the local chapter of the New World Celts. It was fun though I was only one of I think two people without a Kilt. I did get to carry a sword though that was borrowed. There were about 30,000 people this year viewing the parade and taking part in the festivities and street market.

I was going to try and make the Tampa Bay Austin Healey Club meeting on Thursday night, but ending up having to get the condo ready for our very early AM departure and some guests arriving on Friday. I was looking forward to this too, well maybe next time.

The show season is now upon us as Jan, Aaron and I depart the Motor City(yeah it is still called that) for our first event in Boca Raton, FL next weekend put on by the Gold Coast British Car Club. We should arrive on Friday night and spend Saturday hopefully in South Beach and then up early on Sunday for the show. They are expecting close to 250 LBC's in their new location this year. Please see our events page or below in the Chatter for more information on this and other events.

We are then home again after a couple of days in Tampa where we will leave the QE3, Big Honker and the Beaser. Then the following week it is off to Chicago for the indoor swap meet.

This spring we will again be doing a few shows down south before heading back north for the regular show season. In between these events we also have The LBCarCo Adventure 2008 to the Highlands and Islands so it is going to be a full couple of months for us coming up, running here and there.

Lastly our friend John Mangles of the St. Louis MG Club and also owner of Hi-Tech Collision Repair has changed the name of his business to All British Car Repair. After reviewing (and pondering) the new Moss sale that is being offered, it will be impossible for us do the same type of "sale" for our LBCarCo Customers. Since we already provide a very nice discount 24/7/365 on all the parts that you need all the time we cannot double dip and offer a big discount plus a "free gift." Besides we figured, you may not need or want one of the very limited choice "free gifts" which you may never even use from the other "sale." What can we do different and better, while still offering you low everyday prices on EVERYTHING?

So after much deliberation and a suggestion from Annette we have decided to have a little "spirited" fun and offer you something of REAL VALUE along with our LBCarCo Discount! We decided to have a BIG drawing for our customers who place orders via our website. We have tried to keep the rules simple for you to take part and for me to administer!

All orders that have been placed via our website since January 7, 2008 will be included, along with orders placed through February 15, 2008. Multiple orders cannot be combined as additional entries unless they are shipped or picked up on separate occasions. Orders that are shipped or picked up together will be counted as one order/entry for the purposes of this drawing.

The order number that is drawn first will be entitled to a week at our Tampa Bay/Clearwater Area Florida Condo (small security deposit may be required) in or out of season, subject to availability. Transportation, Cleaning Fee, Meals, Airfare, etc. is not included. Your week (Sat.-Sat.) must be taken by December 31, 2009 so you have almost two years to use it.

The Second Order Number Drawn will receive an LBCarCo Gift E-Certificate valued at $200, the Third Number Drawn will receive a $100 LBCarCo Gift E-Certificate the Fourth Number Drawn will receive a $50 LBCarCo Gift E-Certificate, the Fifth - Tenth Number Drawn will receive a $20 LBCarCo Gift E-Certificate. All E-Certificates must be used no later than February 15, 2009. The next 10 order numbers drawn will each receive an LBCarCo Logo Hat, which will be sent out at no charge to the shipping address on the order.

Orders must be placed via our website to qualify for the drawing. There is no cash value on any of the drawing items. The random drawing will be held by February 29, 2008 from all eligible order numbers placed and transactions completed during the above dates. The drawing will be conducted under the supervision of LBCarCo, whose decisions are final. The names on the orders selected will be notified by email to the email address on the order by March 10, 2008. In the event that any email notification is returned as undelivered, LBCarCo may attempt to re-send the notice up to 5 times. We will need to be notified that you have received the email within 10 days of its transmission. If the email notification remains undeliverable after 5 attempts the prize will be forfeited. LBCarCo is not responsible for and shall not be liable for late, lost, misdirected or unsuccessful efforts to notify winners.

HV coils are available in three primary resistances, 3.0 ohm, 1.5 ohm and 0.45 ohm, making them compatible with most points type and electronic ignition systems including the popular Ignitor and Ignitor II ignitions for 4, 6 and 8 cylinder applications. Each week customes send me images to show me their newly done restoration (with parts from LBCarCo of course) or just to let me know what their LBC looks like. Now you can display YOUR LBC for everyone to see. We have had numerous requests for this feature over the years and now it is here. There are catagories for most of the marques as well as an other British Catagory and of course a British Motorcycle catagory too.

LBCarCo Loyalty Program

When you purchase your parts and accessories from LBCarCo you are automatically enrolled in our Loyalty program. No minimums to buy, you ALWAYS save from your FIRST DOLLAR. Presently the Loyalty program consists of the use of our of new FLORIDA condo. The condo, is a great vacation spot near beaches, shopping and only about 100 miles from Disney World. There is now a link to the Loyalty Program on our main page or click one of the pictures below. You can also rent the condo for a week or more at a very reasonable weekly rate too. (If the condo is not in use when you want to rent it we may also be flexible on time, meaning you may be able to stay some extra days at no extra charge.)

The Condo is a two bedroom, two bath ground floor unit in Palm Harbor, Florida (Tampa Bay area). Sleeps up to six. Great location next to famed Innisbrook Golf Resort. Beautiful, quiet complex with two pools, hot tub spa, business center and complete fitness center. Ten minute drive to beaches. Restaurants and shopping nearby. Linens and towels provided. Unit has washer and dryer, fully equipped kitchen, broadband internet with wireless computer, phone with domestic long distance included to USA and Canada, cable TV, home theatre with widescreen TV (for that rainy day), screened lanai overlooking a landscaped courtyard.

The points will be $1.00 spent equals one point (including shipping charges and taxes, if any, since it is easier to keep tabs of it that way for me). For 2007 each week out of season, May 1-November 30 will be 3,000 points and in season, December 1 to April 30 will be 4,000 points. (if you qualify in 2007 the condo can be booked anytime in the future, not just in 2007. There will be a refundable security deposit of course and $85 cleaning fee for each stay, which can be paid for with 1,000 points if you so desire. Stays are of course subject to availability.

We will also give our customers a head start by back dating your points to August 1, 2005. So everything you have purchased so far from that date forward will count towards your points balance. I won’t be sending out statements like the airlines do so we ask that you keep track please, but if you think you may be close you can email me anytime and I can let you know where what your points balance is. As time goes on we may add other things to the program, but for starters this is a great place to have a getaway for up to 6 people.

Should you just want a great spot to vacation all year round and don't have the number of points just yet, you can also rent the condo by the week or longer. Contact us for details and our low rates for rentals.

The Florida Suncoast MG Car Club, along with the Ridge Art Association, is sponsoring the Winter Haven Art Festival and European Car Show on Sunday, March 16, 2008. The foundation of the car show is "Restoration of Cars is an Art Form." This is a judged show for European cars 1989 and older. The Ridge Art Association has been conducting the Art Festival for over 25 years. This will be the second year the car show has been included in the event. The blend of the car show to the Art Festival is unique and offers our ladies an opportunity to not only review the cars, but while the men talk "car talk," they can spend time enjoying a truly upscale art show. The annual Triumph event for the South Central region of the Vintage Triumph Registry (Texas, Oklahoma, New Mexico, Arkansas, Lousiana) held in Tyler TX at the height of the flower season for east Texxas. This meet will have the usual events (Autocross, TSD Rallye, Fun or Gimmick Rallye, Funkana and a Concours d'Elegance car show. Fun drives in the local area and an awards banquet included. April 19-20, 2008 St Louis, MO. - 13th Missouri Endurance Rally and Mini-Endurance Trial
The Missouri Endurance Rally is a rally of approximately 650 miles. Participants are given a list of "stops" to make during the course of the rally. The goal is to find the best overall route that encompasses all the stops and make it back to the finish while trying to cover the LEAST number of miles. It is a true navigational challenge - no laptops or GPS are allowed. The Missouri Mini-Endurance Trial is a half-size version of the full rally and is very competitive. Open to all British vehicles manufactured before 1981 that have not been modernized with electronic fuel injection or computerized engine management systems. This is a test of our classic machines! Our Now Annual Adventure for 2008 will take in the sights of the Scottish Islands of Mull and Skye and the cities of Fort William and Glasgow. There will be 54 people joining Jan and me on the 2008 Adventure and what a trip it will be. The sights are just absolutely beautiful and the activities Jan has planned will be fun and exciting. This year we will also have our "almost" annual karting challenge and maybe even a golf tournament. SPRITE JUBILEE 2008 Plans are well underway for what is likely to be the biggest-ever gathering of Sprites, at least since they went out of production in 1971. The event is the “Sprite Jubilee” to celebrate the 50th anniversary of these legendary cars, and it will be held in central Pennsylvania, near the city of Carlisle, May 16 -20, 2008. This event follows the tradition started almost 20 years ago now, when in 1988 we celebrated the Sprite’s 30th anniversary with “Sprite Fest,” followed by “Sprite Bash” in 1993, “Sprite Rush” in 1998, and “Sprite Spree” in 2003. According to the Global Austin-Healey Sprite Registry, of which I am Registrar, this location is within a short driving distance for literally hundreds and hundreds of Spridgets. Additionally, owners of ALL English cars are invited to Sprite Jubilee 2008. Special recognition and awards for all British cars participating will be made during the meet. Once again the Michiana Brits will hold the ever popular Tea at the Vicarage on July 20, 2008. You don't have to drive a Little British Car to participate but it adds to the fun. This road rally will take you through towns, past lakes and Amish Farms in picturesque LaGrange County, Indiana. You will be answering questions and gathering odds and ends along the way. True to tradition, the run starts and ends at the Howe Military School in Howe, Indiana. At the conclusion of the rally the participants can enjoy a "Bring Your Own" picnic lunch on the school grounds while scores are tabulated. Saturday, August 2nd will mark the 24th annual British Car Day in Dayton, Ohio; the largest all British show in the Midwest. Over 350 cars will converge on the Eastwood MetroPark. Entrants will compete for participant choice awards in 32 classes. In addition, the Rangers Choice, Royal Air Force Award, Longest Drive and Best of Show presented by the British Museum of Transportation will also be awarded. While the cars are displayed on the shaded, grass showfield, there will be vendors with new and used parts and memorabilia, a full service concession stand featuring grilled food and beverages and more than 100 door prizes for entrants. Advance registration of $15 will include a free 2008 BCD t-shirt if received before July 18, 2008. Dash plaques are guaranteed for the first 325 entries. Yellow Rear Window?

If you're like me, you've probably experienced how quickly (one winters storage time) the plastic rear window on our LBCs deteriorate. Well, I've found a solution.

There is a product on the market called "Goofoff", which is intended for removing graffiti, etc, but seems to work just great on removing that yellowish film that forms on the window. Just take a soft cloth, saturate it with this stuff, and polish gently inside and out on the plastic surface, and voila.............no more yellow, and you can actually see through the window again. Not really sure how permanent this is, or whether it eventually does any harm to the plastic, but at least for a season, it appears to work.
