The Chatter this Week at LBCarCo (May 13, 2012)
Since the last Chatter we have been on the move quite a bit.
We had a nice weekend with some fellow Windsor-Detroit members the last weekend in April, Janet and Elvin.
We stopped by the Tampa Bay Auto Museum and also the Military Museum which we had heard very good things about.
There are also a couple of what is it pictures see if you can identify them and let me know.
Following that weekend we were off to Road Atlanta for the annual Mitty Vintage Car Races and display presented by Classic Motorsports and Grassroots Motorsports.
We arrived on Wednesday night late and did our setup in very windy conditions on Thursday with threats of rain off and on.
Thankfully the rest of the weekend was great weather and a fun time was had by all.
I did stroll around a bit and got a few pictures including Hermann and Geri Schaller's beautiful 1949 Triumph Roadster "Sir Callaby."
We did have one minor mishap though, if you look at the picture of our booth and on the fence you will see our old Little British Car Co.
sign.
Seems someone like it a lot and "borrowed" it so if you see it in someone's garage please let us know.
Amazing what people will "borrow" sometimes.
We packed it all up with much pain and it was also very hot on Sunday.
Both of us are starting to feel the signs of "old age" with Jan's knee acting up and my left shoulder is constantly in pain and not much use for lifting.
We finally departed Road Atlanta about 7:30PM and off we went to Knoxville, where we were leaving the trailer for some awning and other repair (planned) and thanks to our friend Jim Watson a lift back to the airport for a return to Tampa Bay to get in our last licks there and take the kitties, Minee and Bentlee back to Farmington Hills this past Thursday via the big bird.
Friday morning it was back in the air for our flight back to Knoxville and one of our favorite events put on by the Blout British Car Club, Springtime in the Smokies.
We love this weekend event! The location is terrific, everyone is like family, a great BBQ on Friday, Bonfire on both Friday and Saturday nights, nice grassy showfield and to top it off everything is right at the Tallyho Hotel.
If it were not for having to setup our tents it would be a wonderful relaxing weekend ;)
As you can see by the pictures the sky on Saturday was a bit overcast but no rain and all, which was wonderful.
About 115 (down a bit from last year, probably due to the weather forcast) cars took to the field including the MGB Roadmaster V8, which is becoming quite a sensation this year.
You will see there were many really nice cars at the event including the 1966 Spitfire Ilene, that the club restored and proceeds will go to the Blout County Children's home.
They are asking only $8,000 for this car (though highest offer will be accepted) If you are interested contact Jim Watson at spridget@charter.net.
There were lots of door prizes, a super silent auction with lots of very nice items and a $620 50/50 raffle.
Any and all proceeds again to the Childrens Home.
Saturday night was the annual dinner at the Carriage house right next door (like I said it is all self contained) and that was followed by the bonfire.
Jan and I turned in early though since we wanted to get a head start on traffic, since a rock slide had close all but one lane of I-75 on our route north.
We are home for a couple of days when we are off again for our annual LBCarCo Adventure trip, which is our 11th trip and this year we are visiting with 47 travelers, Wales, Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland.
You can follow our adventures as it happens right from our website by clicking on the Adventure 2012 link on our home page (starting on Wednesday).
We will be updating pictures as they happen and we will have stories and pictures in the next Chatter.
Our next Adventure in 2013 will include Paris, Provence (staying in Aix), Monterosso in Cinque Terre (the Italian Riviera), San Gimignano (in Tuscany) and ending in Rome.
The May trip is completely booked so for the first time we will be adding a second trip in early October (space is limited) with the same venues.
Costs will be similar to past Adventures depending on the exchange rate and cost of airfare, $3800-$4200 approx.
and will be 16 days, but a day might be added.
We keep the cost as low as possible and try to give you a pretty big bang for your buck by doing this ourselves (Jan does most of it).
We call it the LBCarCo Adventure (for lack of a better name) as most of the people that join us are friends and customers.
The trip is actually not part of the business and each year we do it for fun and the chance to join you all on a fun filled trip.
Each Adventure is packed with great sights, activities, museums, gardens (car activities when we can include them), local foods, nice hotels, deluxe coach and/or train transportation, and most important a wonderful time with friends and family that have a common bond of Little British Cars.
If you are interested in joining us for this or a future adventure please drop us a note at LBCarCoNews@LBCarCo.com
and put Adventure Trip in the subject line.

Order one today!
Mag Tags and Tire Valve Caps - Small but a Great Gift
|
|
Another useful item are our Tire Valve Caps for LBC's.
We have one of the largest selections in the USA.
The most popular is our 5-piece set of LOGO CAPS tire valve stem caps are detailed with your car's logo.
These are limited to stock only and the company that made them are no longer in business.
Each machined cap has a buna sealing O ring and the inset logo has a lexan shield protecting it.
A great detail item and a fun and useful collectable at only $15 a set.
Discontinued Limited Supply
We recommend using a little antiseize on the valve stem threads when installing Logo Caps, it makes removing them a lot easier.
They will also stay in better condition if you remove them before using some of the high detergent mag and wire wheel cleaners.
We also carry the custom DELUXE MG TYRE VALVE CAPS, CHROMED PLATED BRASS, EIGHT SIDED, RAISED MG SUITABLE FOR BACKGROUND COLOR.
These caps are very good quality.
They are forged in solid brass in an 8-sided mold made specifically for the MG logo, then machined, polished one at a time by hand, and finally chrome plated.
And GET THIS, the MG logo is in deep relief, crowning the 8-faceted side.
The laborious manufacturing process makes them more expensive than other logo caps, but they are worth it! They are just plain nice and of the highest quality.
One other thing you can do with these caps (very much like the dashpot caps we offer) is to add paint in the recess.
Dip the top of each cap in whatever color paint your MG is, then wipe the high spots with a laquer thinner dampened rag, and voila, The Cap's MG logo is now customer colored to match your MG.
SUPER!

YOUR in-depth colour illustrated guide to understanding, repairing & improving the electrical systems of British classics equipped with Lucas, Smiths Industries & SU components.
1950 to 1980.
The electrical systems used in British cars in the period 1950 to 1980 have gained some notoriety, most of it unfavourable and much of it undeserved.
This book shines a light on the subject, system by system, including the murkier corners.
Whatever their foibles, the cars remain the cherished possessions of enthusiasts worldwide.
This book’s contribution to making the electrical systems understandable and reliable will maintain the enjoyment the cars provide for many decades to come.
Based on a formula proven in Rick Astley’s previous and much acclaimed book, MGB Electrical Systems, this new book breaks down the electrical systems of classic British cars into separate and easily understandable sections.
In each, the components and system as a whole are examined in theory and chronology, to show how and why they evolved the way they did.
With hundreds of colour photographs and diagrams, together with fault-finding tables, the veil of mystery is removed, allowing the owner to understand, repair and improve their cherished classic.
This book is the definitive and indispensable guide to British car electrical systems, and deserves a place on every enthusiast's bookshelf.
- Independent Reviews
"It covers everything that you need to know and is a must have on the bookshelf of all British Car lovers.
Thoroughly recommended." - British Car Club of New Zealand
"Each major system is given its own chapter, providing theory, component parts and full system operating explanations.
Also included are fully cross-referenced, fault-finding charts, which combine with hundreds of colour photographs and illustrations to allow the owner to understand, repair and improve their cherished classic." - Irish Vintage Scene
"Each major system is given its own chapter and full operating explanations are provided.
All in all a valuable help to the classic car owner who it determined to do it himself." - Club Torque
"While it centres on post-war British cars built up to 1980, most of the information is relevant to any classic car, and there in-depth descriptions of how to make proper electrical connections, use relays, etc, all illustrated by colour pictures and diagrams.
It's just superb." - Octane
Covering common car electrical systems from 1950 to 1980 this book is packed with illustrations and easy-to-follow guides." - Practical Classics
"Book of the Year 2009.
Covers everything you're ever likely to need to know about your classic's wiring.
Full colour images and clear advice make this book a bargain." - Classics Monthly

LBCarCo Tech Tips - Each Chatter a New Reader Submitted Tech Tip!
Coupe Window Trim Tip.
To permanently fasten down the chrome finishing strips used to join the ends on older-style coupe chrome window trim (for example on MGA and Jag coupes) obtain a long strip of 1/4-round wood base molding strip, a few feet longer than the distance from the height of your garage ceiling to the height of your car window.
Cut a V-shaped notch in one end.
Then glue your chrome finishing strip down with epoxy, and use the molding strip as a wedge to hold it in place, with the V-notch against the finishing strip and the other end of the molding strip against the garage ceiling.
A slight bowing in the wooden molding will allow enough tension to hold the chrome finishing strip in place for the 24 hours needed to fully cure the epoxy.
Keep those TIPS and Humorous Stories coming, WE ALWAYS NEED THEM!
