The Chatter this Week at LBCarCo (July 22, 2007)
The Big Summer Sizzling Sale is behind us.
Thanks for placing your orders with us during the sale and all year long of course.
www.LBCarCo.com
is one of only a few alternative sources for your British Car Parts at a discount.
With your continued support we hope to provide this service for many years to come.
This week we have made some changes to our check out page to make it a bit more user friendly.
Several of you have suggested these change and we were able to implement them as requested.
When you now check out you only have to enter your delivery address and then check a box if it is the same as your credit card billing address.
If it is not the same then you have the option of filling out a different delivery address.
We will store these addresses for future use too.
Most of you have noticed over the last several months that our dollar has even become weaker against the pound and other currencies.
We are almost at par with the Canadian dollar and I bet in a month or two the “loonie” will be worth more than the buck.
You have to go way back to the Nixon Administration to find our dollar this low.
For border cities like Detroit this is important factor.
The cheap great meals and inexpensive vacations in Canada are a thing of the past.
Since the last price changes in February the dollar has dropped about 10 to 15 cents per dollar against the pound.
Now I am no economist, but my thoughts are we could be in for another round of price changes.
With the dollar continuing to plummet there could be some hefty increases in our parts costs.
I don’t know when or if this will happen, but don’t wait and be caught in a higher priced parts market.
If you need something now order your parts today at www.LBCarCo.com
and save.
It almost certainly will not be less expensive if you wait.
For our adventure this week there were a lot of choices to be sure, that really encompassed this and next week.
It is that time of the year when some of the major North American registers have their annual conventions in the USA or Canada.
The North American MGB Register had their meet this week in northern California.
From the reports I have gotten they had 150-200 MGB’s and Midget’s in attendance.
It was a bit too far for us to travel with Jan’s limited vacation schedule, so we had to pass on that one.
This week the North American MGA Register has their annual GT in Whistler, BC.
Same story a bit too far in a limited time frame and also it is very difficult to vend in Canada.
I had thought about flying out just for fun, but decided to pass since there are many things to tend to here.
I don't think I have missed one in about 10 years now.
The annual Vintage Triumph Register convention hosted; by the Delaware Valley Triumphs of which we are proud members was our event of choice.
The event was held in the Valley Forge, PA area.
That being a much more drivable event for this weekend’s adventure.
Well of course when we are in the QE3, towing the Big Honker it is not that much of an adventure like the old days with EmmieA and our first small trailer!
The event started on Tuesday, though we would not be able to attend all of it.
We arrived on Thursday night in time for the Encampment Cookout (Cook-in) and wild shirt contest.
The events earlier in the week included several tours for participants, the always challenging Autocross, a fun rallye and a tough DST rallye with both a novice and expert class.
When we arrived at the Sheraton (same hotel that I believe NAMGBR is using next year) we ran into the smiling faces of Sue and Dave Snyder from the DTSC.
They were camped out by their trailer having a few cold ones in the pouring rain.
Yep there were a couple of free car washes this week, but nothing that dampened the spirits of the over 300 Triumphs that came from as far away as California for the meet.
As usual it was great to see lots of old friends that we have met and made over the years and after the cookout we took a walk through the parking lot to view some of the gorgeous Triumphs.
Some of my favorites were the Herald Wagons that were immaculate, the several Italia’s that are just plain out of this world.
I think if I could afford one that might be the Triumph I would own (though a TR3 is much more in the cards), though Jan probably has other idea since she really loved the Herald wagons!
There were also about 20 Stags at the event, another neat Triumph though often misaligned by folks not in the know.
This is a very serious “family” car if you want a cool classic British roadster, which you can get with an automatic too.
Friday was the big day though with the concours and peoples choice show.
The setting was the nearby quaint town of Phoenixville, PA.
The town closed the main streets for the VTR to host this event.
The streets were lined with all the TR’s and it was a sight! There was also shopping in town and restaurants for participants to visit.
Jan, Aaron and I took advantage of the nearby Steel City coffee/sandwich shop with a wireless hotspot too.
The weather was great some clouds, no rain in the forecast and a nice breeze to keep everyone comfortable to walk the streets and see all the cars.
Both Aaron and I got out for a stroll and took some pictures of course which are shared in this week's Chatter.
There even was a Triumph Gloria that Jan thought was an early MG when it drove by our booth early in the morning.
The Colonial Theatre was showing old vintage Triumph films all day long and serving all the goodies that a movie theatre serves.
If you recall the movie the Blob from the fifties this theatre was featured in the movie.
With Aarons help again we were able to set up pretty quickly and pack up in time to only be about 45 minutes late for the banquet.
(showered and changed first of course ;) The food was great for hotel food and Jan and I are looking forward to the event next year, hopefully it will be just as good.
There were the usual greetings, a very long awards program (about two hours with a break) a presentation by the DTSC for next years VTR near Detroit in Ypsilanti (we won’t have to go far for that one!) and a fabulous guest speaker Graham Robson.
Graham for those that don’t know is a long time Triumph enthusiast from the UK and he also work at Triumph for many years.
He has written several books on the marque that are must haves for your TR library.
On our first UK Adventure Graham arranged a visit for our group to the Triumph Register in Didcot, England so it was good to see him again at this years VTR.
The surprise grand finale was a Philadelphia tradition a wildly costumed string band.
Every New Years in Philly they have a parade called the mummers and the string bands are a wild and crazy part of the tradition.
There is dancing, music and New Orleans style craziness in cold Philly each new year.
VTR got to sample a taste of this tradition thanks to the host club DVT.
That entertainment will be hard to top.
But……next year DTSC promises to have a group called the Spinal Tappets so we shall see.
Blake Discher the new VTR president and also the chair for next years VTR claims this is the final farewell concert.
(he also said later that it is actually their 3rd for 4th farewell concert).
It had been a very long day since we were at the show at 5:30AM to get set up so it was time to get some much needed sleep (I did not nap during the banquet, which I have been known to do) for the drive home on Saturday, wait or is it Sunday, no Saturday, hey we will be home on a Sunday this weekend and no boat to go out on…..bummer!
Thanks to the VTR and especially our friends at Delaware Valley Triumphs for having us at this wonderful event.
Registration for next years VTR (the North American Triumph Challenge) to be held August 5-8, 2008 opens on August 1, 2007.
Visit www.vtr-natc.com
for all the detail and for early registration.
Next weekend will be a short hop for us.
We will be at Cleveland (Pepper Pike), OH.
- British Car Day XXI at Ursuline College.

See you next weekend!

| August 2-5, 2007 | Bennington, VT.
- MGs in Bennington
How about a three day MG weekend in Bennington, VT on the first weekend in August, 2007? As you know both NAMGAR and NAMGBR ‘s 2007 events are on the West Coast. For many of us who went to Gatlinburg this year, the real fun was driving those fabulous roads, kicking all those MG tires, meeting old friends, and just seeing a bunch of MGs on the road. This is a low key event: no car show, no banquet, no registration fee, just a designated host hotel, maybe a reception or picnic (paid for by attendees), and an opportunity for any MG owner who doesn’t plan on driving to California or British Columbia to spend a little time in the company of other MG owners. We have selected the Paradise Motor Inn as the “host hotel.” We have set aside thirty-two (32) premier rooms at the special event price of $90.00 per room for the evenings of August 2, 3 and 4, 2007. Reservations should be made directly with the hotel: www.theparadisemotorinn.com or 800-575-5784, to get this rate you MUST identify the reservation as:”Event: MGs in Bennington” when making the reservation. There is no registration fee for attending “MGs in Bennington” though we may ask for a voluntary contribution to cover the cost of a reception . As I would like to keep a record of who’ll be attending, I‘d appreciate your e-mailing me at mgadavid@yahoo.com or phone: (860) 267-1432. David Werblow, Connecticut MG Club, Ltd. |

- 24th Annual Colorado English Motoring Conclave
Join Colorado's British car and motorcycle clubs for a memorable fall weekend at the Colorado English Motoring Conclave at Oak Park, Ralston Road and Oak Street, Arvada, Colorado. The Ride the Rockies tour on Saturday, September 15, kicks off the weekend with an autumn drive along paved roads winding through the golden aspen groves and evergreen forests of the Colorado Rockies. The tour begins at Oak Park at 10:00 AM and ends at a local restaurant where participants can eat a late lunch and visit with other British motoring enthusiasts. Conclave car show registration begins at 8:00 AM on Sunday, September 16. This year the Conclave features vintage racecars, including a 1930 MG Brooklands 12/12 racer, a 1930's Jaguar SS-100, a 1952 Cadillac V8-powered Allard J2, the sole 1958 MG factory LeMans racecar, and several of Colin Chapman’s Lotus Sevens. The 2007 Conclave logo represents the Jaguar SS-100 once owned by Dave Garroway, the first host of NBC’s Today Show. Garroway raced the car in the 1949 U.S. Nationals at Watkins Glen against Briggs Cunningham’s Ferrari 166SC, John Fitch’s MG-TC, and Zora Arkus Duntov’s Allard J2. In addition to racecars, Conclave participants have the opportunity to see more than 500 other English cars, trucks, and motorcycles. No matter what you love—from Mini Coopers to Rolls-Royces, BSAs to Land Rovers—there is something for you on the grass of Oak Park. Become acquainted with local British car clubs, meet vendors of parts and services for the collector car hobby, visit with the staff of a national car magazine, and stroll through the swap meet. And be sure to bring the family along. While you indulge yourself, the kids can enjoy the playground, listen to the bagpipe band, and eat a picnic lunch under the cottonwoods along Ralston Creek! - America's British Reliability Run
In it's fifth year, America's British Reliability Run is a challenging, but fun, driving event that so far has raised more than $100,000 for worthy children's charities. This year, two separate 800-mile runs on the same weekend, October 6-7, 2007, will benefit two highly-rated charities. The Wisconsin run begins in Janesville and ends in Milwaukee and will help Milwaukee-based "The Center for Blind and Visually Impaired Children." At the conclusion of the Wisconsin run, teams will park their cars for an "It's OK to Touch Our Cars" car show for visually impaired children. The Ohio run, beginning and ending in Massillon, will benefit Columbus-based "Adventures for Wish Kids." Each two-person team pays their own expenses out-of-pocket and has a goal of raising $500 for the charity. Up to 50 British cars of any marque or vintage may participate in each run. Even if you can't participate in the run, please consider supporting this effort by making a donation of any size. Because teams pay their own expenses out of pocket, 100% of your donation goes to the charity, please help support the run and it's partner charities! To register your car, donate, or read more about the run, visit the event web site at http://www.abrr.org. Contact: Blake Discher. Phone: 313-259-4460. Email: bdischer@blakedischer.com. |

LBCarCo Tech Tips - Each Week a New Reader Submitted Tech Tip!
MGA Bonnet Latch Adjustments
When adjusting the bonnet latch on your MGA use a piece of masking tape over the catch plate to determine where the latch bolt is aligned.
Only lower the bonnet enough to mark the tape until you get it centered.
Don't allow it to catch or you may get that terrible sinking feeling when the bonnet won't release.
I've found you can use a paint stir paddle for a 5 gallon pail to slip between the grille fins and tap the latch bolt back up in the event you didn't follow instructions and remove the grill before adjusting the latch.
Keep those TIPS and Humorous Stories coming, WE ALWAYS NEED THEM!
You can earn a $20 purchase credit for each Tip or Story that is published in our weekly mailing.
Please send your tech tips or other submission to me at LBCarCoNews@LBCarCo.com

If you don't currently have an account with LBCarCo you can still make a submission.
We will provide your credit of $20.00 (only one credit may be used per order/shipment, not valid for subscriptions) any time you should purchase something online from LBCarCo.
Humorous Story or an article about and picture of your first LBC you would like to share with our audience, drop me a note along with the submission.
They should be no more than 500 to 1,000 words.
If we use it we will provide you with a $20 LBCarCo purchase credit.
