LBCarCo Chatter - To Stowe We Go - Again

Our second longest trip of the year (not counting our flight to Portland this month) is the big British Invasion in Stowe, Vermont.  This was our second trip to Vermont in a month as we were there in August for a fun event and could also go through Canada as we did not have our wares with us so that made it about 3 hours shorter each way.   We departed Detroit on Thursday about 4:30AM hoping to get to Stowe before dark and to catch the 6:30PM Essex ferry (which we did), but we forgot it gets dark early there and by 7:30 it was pitch black.  We did arrive at the Riverside Inn by 8PM which was pretty good and had time to go for a very nice dinner (never had the chance to do this before) at the host hotel which was the Ye Old English Pub.  What a fantastic meal is all I can say, in fact each night we have a great dinner and even desert two of the nights (and I still lost three pounds).  Notice the photo of our deserts from the outing on Saturday evening at the Grill 108.

In any case the weather outlook was bleak as I checked it several times earlier in the week.  But Friday, which was setup day in the AM turned out to just have a few drizzles and then scattered clouds and sun the rest of the afternoon.  Folks really started to arrive around 2PM and by 6PM for the reception in the big tent everyone was there.  Saturday of course was the big event with the people choice, the concours and the car coral.  There were about 700 cars on the field and from what I heard about 80 folks chose not to show up probably due to the weather forecast.  The weather on Saturday was even better than on Friday and it continued right on into Sunday.  No rain at all which is something new for Stowe, though we did have a bit of wind on Friday.  There were lots of vendors at the show this year.  There were at least 20-25 or so located outside under their own covering (or none if they preferred) and another 10 or so in the big top where we were located.  I did get a chance on Sunday to stroll the booths and meet some of the other vendors, which was fun.  EmmieA was on the field both days and she enjoyed being around so many fine British Cars! (I also just got word that the Austin Mini automatic is done and hopefully I will have that with me either this weekend or next.  Also Jan got MINI Pearl back today and she looks as good as NEW!)

The only sad note for during the whole event was another act of vandalism, the organizers were shocked as they have never had anything like this happen before.  Someone took a KEY to the QE3 and put a nice 12 inch long pinstripe on her drivers side rear door.  This is getting old since this is now the third year in a row that someone has vandalized us ;(  First at Mad Dogs, then Chicago and now Stowe along with one other related instance, which left a telltale "finger print".   It is really sad that someone has to resort to these types of destructive episodes!

Sunday was purely a fun day for everyone.  This was the day that all the driving events, picnic basket/tailgate competition, tug-o-war and competition by colors takes place.  You can visit our website for images of this weekends happenings.   http://www.lbcarco.com/cgi-bin/gen5?runprog=lbcnews&page=news092103.html.  Thanks to John Shea for helping with the Saturday shots and Bill Joyce for working on the Sunday images for me.

Scene by the Ferry

It is such beautiful country in Vermont, the mountains, lakes, scenery.  I almost moved there in fact about 10 years ago, would have been interesting as the sailing there is like being in north Lake Huron up in Canada every day.  We took the ferry back to New York and made a mad dash to get Jan home for work on Monday.  We got to meet a lot of new faces and reunions with even more "old" faces.  Everyone there makes these shows very special for us and I don't mean by just being a vendor.  The multi day events like this enable us to socialize with folks and that really does add the extra glow to the show.

This week our Show Email Gift Certificate winner is Glen Malcolm.  Please contact me via email and you will receive a $20 LBCarCo Gift Certificate good on most items from our website.   To have a chance to win each week, all you need to do is stop by our booth at the shows we attend and sign up to receive our LBCarCo Chatter.

Next weekend you should find us in Rocks State Park for the MG's on the Rocks event.  Don't let the name fool you though, it is really LBC's on the rocks as there are many many interesting LBC's at this event!  Come on out and pay the MG's of Baltimore a visit and while you are there say hi to Jan and me.  Also a very Happy New Year to many of our friends and customers who are celebrating Rosh Hashanah this coming week.

This weeks newsletter is a bit shorter than normal...time to hit the sack for some rest ;)

See The Light at LBCarCo - Go Halogen for Safety

Little British Car Co, exclusively brings you the best in Halogen bulbs to light your way and provide you with an extra measure of safety when you drive your LBC.  One of the biggest worries I have always had when driving our little cars is that will we be seen by the large "Yank Tanks" that share our roads.  LBCarCo has just the prescription if you have this same worry!  We are the exclusive North American distributors for Classic and Vintage Bulbs' halogen solutions.  For the best daytime visibility get our 50/15w super bright tail lamp.  You will not believe the difference once you install this important safety device as it will give you that extra margin of comfort on the road. You will be seen very easily in the daytime and at night you can't be missed ;)  Our part number for this halogen bulb is 170-750H and at only $11.00 each it is a bargain and will fit most dual filament applications where an 1157 bulb is used.  See the actual difference in the Range Rover below.

Of course we also have bulbs in halogen for pretty much every other use including instrument bulbs (I can even read a map in my MGA with these installed), turn signal bulbs, license lamps, map lights, side lamps, fog/driving lamps, sealed beam headlamps (two styles) and European style Halogen Semi-Sealed Headlamps now back in stock.   Check out our complete listing and bulb base chart on our Halogen Specials Page.

LBCarCo England Adventure 2004 - Join Us for the time of your LIFE!

Join Jan and me in England for our 2004 version of the England Adventure, there still are openings.  The trip as usual will be exciting and not like any tour you have ever gone on before.  We have done the Adventure twice now, the first year we had 37 people and this year we had 44 (which is our max number based on some activities we have planned.)  Folks are still talking about the two trips and telling us what a great time they had on them (see below).  In fact we were invited to a party in Nashville by a large group that joined us this year for their "picture" party.   We have also had at some people that were on the Adventure this year already sign up to join us again!!

The cost of the England Adventure 2004 is roughly between $1800.00 and $2000.00 (one more night in London has been added too) per person (FYI the base for 2003 was $1700.00), though could increase or decrease some based on the pound sterling rates and some costs and activities that have not yet been provided to us for the 2004 Adventure.  The Adventure is pretty much a non-profit trip for us, but allows us to introduce folks to England that have not yet been or for those that have been there you will hopefully see some of  England more like a local than a tourist.   So far we have over 70 people interested in the 2004 Adventure and we can only take 44 so it will be first come first served.  A deposit of $500 per person will be required to hold your place (information on the deposit is at the end of this email.)  We will create a waiting list once all 44 places are taken and if someone can't make it, we can then fill that position with someone from the waiting list and will refund your deposit.   We have already sent out a notice to the folks that have expressed interest in the trip and if you are interested please let us know right away.  Just send us an email to LBCarCoNews@LBCarCo.com, with LBCarCo Adventure 2004 in the subject line.  I will then send you a tentative itinerary and deposit information.   Read and see pictures and comments about our 2003 England Adventure.

LBCarCo Tech Tips each Week a New Reader Submitted Tech Tip!

Our Tech Tip this week is from Bob Simmen.  Thanks Bob ($20.00 will be credited to your LBCarCo account)  Please contact us ASAP for further info.

Sometimes it is difficult to remove the pivot bearing from the flywheel.  An easy method is to fill the hole with grease and then take a dowel roughly the size of the inside diameter of the bearing.  Start to insert this dowel into the bearing and when it reaches resistance from the grease, rap it with a hammer.  The pressure of the grease will push the pivot bearing out of the flywheel.

You can now view our entire list of previous tech tips by visiting LBCarCo Tech Tips or by clicking on the link at the top of our website.
