Our 2017 adventure to the Beaulieu autojumble, the Goodwood Revival and a lot of good old fashioned sightseeing in southern England is now over with great memories and new friends made. The two weeks went by quickly but it sure seemed like we saw and did a lot.

We had a number of people on a waiting list for the trip last month, but weren't able to accommodate them - the number of people is simply limited by the capacity of the coach we use throughout the trip. As the trip was really all we had hoped it might be, we are open to doing another one in late August / early September 2018. Provisional dates for the Goodwood Revival have been announced - September 7-9, 2018. And the Beaulieu autojumble is always held the weekend prior, which would be September 1 & 2.

The two events the trip will revolve around are the autojumble and the revival. The autojumble at Beaulieu is one of the biggest in the world. They say if you can't find it here, you don't need it. Not sure about that, but there are aisles of traders' booths offering just about anything "old car" related you can imagine. Even with the rain this year it was fun to look at the varied displays; on a sunny day, it would be simply spectacular. The revival is like a trip down memory lane with vintage racing, music from the 40s to the 60s, retro fashions, tea stands, outdoor bars, a fun fair, a car auction, vintage shops, car displays, vendors of everything from vintage clothing to car parts - and simply a great, fun atmosphere.

So, look at the details which follow and see if you are interested in this "encore" trip. While there are lots of car-oriented activities, we also fit in plenty of other activities as well. I'm not really a "car person" myself, but let me tell you, the Goodwood Revival was simply great fun and the Morgan factory tour left me in awe of the craftsmanship and pride of the men and women who work there. The major fixed cost is the hire of the coach (with our excellent driver who is now a friend, Ken Short) so we do need to have enough people to spread that cost throughout the group.

We would begin by flying from the US or Canada 2 days before the coach tour commences. As we're all getting a bit more "mature" we have found that allowing a leisure day to adjust to the inevitable jet lag makes for a more enjoyable start to the trip. We'll stay at a comfortable hotel adjacent to Heathrow - complete with coffee shop, bar, restaurant, free wifi - and views of planes landing every 45 seconds! No noise inside from the planes though - windows are amazingly soundproof.

After a day of getting acquainted (or reacquainted) and rested, we would be off on the adventure. Just a few miles from Heathrow is the first stop - the birthplace of British motorsport, Brooklands. You get a lovely introductory talk on the history of the track and what went on here during the early years and then during the war years. There are many varied exhibits - automotive and aviation. You can even go on a Concorde and walk on what remains of the race track.

Then we would be off to the delightful city of Winchester which would be our base for several days. Everyone on this year's trip was pleasantly surprised on what an enjoyable place to stay this turned out to be. It's just the perfect size with a pedestrian High Street, lots of pubs and tearooms, historical sites, Marks & Spencer, and a beautiful cathedral. And gorgeous hanging baskets of flowers on the streets! We'll allow plenty of time to enjoy the charms of the city (that was one request this year as it was so pleasant spending free time there) and include a guided tour of the cathedral.

One thing that makes our trips different from others is that we don't like to spend a night or two in many different places. We'd rather spend more time in one or two places and do day trips out from those places. There are so many interesting places to see in all parts of England that you need to pick from the many possibilities.

Our hotel would be the lovely Winchester Royal Hotel, just two blocks from the High Street. It's a 4 star hotel which receives consistently high ratings on the various review sites. Parts of the building have been a hotel for hundreds of years, but the rooms here have all the conveniences from free wifi to heated towel racks. Breakfast is a plentiful buffet of cold and hot items, including all the traditional English favorites. There's a cozy little bar, a full restaurant, spacious lounge for evening get togethers and a delightful walled garden for afternoon tea or a pre-dinner drink. You would never know you're in the middle of the city! It's a great place to start the day and a welcoming place to come back to at the end of a day of travel.

While in Winchester we would take in one day of the Beaulieu autojumble (admission to the National Motor Museum and Beaulieu House also included) and two days of the Goodwood Revival. On the sightseeing end of things we would have a luncheon trip on a traditional canal boat, tour the New Forest and visit the stone circle and manor house at Avebury. We'll pass on Stonehenge (wish we had done so this year - too much like a theme park now, Avebury is a much better experience.) There's an interesting open-air museum near Goodwood that looks well worth a visit and there are a number of interesting sites related to the preparations for the D Day invasion in the area. We did not visit these this year but they are well worth looking into. And you simply must visit a stately home and a beautiful National Trust garden if you're in England.

We'll spend some time in the Cotswolds area as well as we must include a visit to the Morgan Motor Car Factory where the cars are still built using traditional coachbuilding techniques - by skilled craftspeople. The 2 hour plus tours, led by Morgan owners or retired workers, are absolutely fascinating. And we'll visit a few of the charming villages of this quintessentially English part of England.

As always this trip would include coach transportation, all hotels (probably 15 nights) and breakfasts, and some lunches and dinners. It would include admission to 1 day at Beaulieu and 2 days at Goodwood Revival. Any group sightseeing would also be included. We'll include the best of the 2017 activities, drop a couple of stops and add some new and interesting places. We'll also include a gratuity for Ken so we do not need to "pass the hat" asking for a donation.

We'd spend the night before departure back at a hotel near Heathrow to make it convenient for getting those morning flights home from Heathrow. I am anticipating that the price for the above will be about $3,000 per person based on double occupancy. Airfare would be additional. This assumes that the exchange rate for the British pound remains constant - if it gets worse, it would be a bit more; if it gets better, a bit less. If we did not have a full coach to share that cost, it could be $50 to $100 more per person. We do this because we like doing it and try to provide good value for the dollars you spend. Deposit would be $400 per person with the balance payable in 4 installments prior to August 2018.

I haven't include airfare as it seems more and more people want to use miles on their preferred airline. But if enough people are interested I would see about booking a group on Delta - they are the easiest to work with and have good local connections compared to some other airlines. Group rates actually are not much of a bargain, they just provide some flexibility prior to final payment and payment in full is not due until 90 days prior to departure. The average airfare this year was about $1,100 but no idea what the future holds in that regard.

If this sounds good to you and you would enjoy the company of a great group of people to sample some of the best of Britain, send an email to and I will start putting together a list of participants and get back to you. Hopefully we can make this trip happen next August/September 2018.

LBCarCo Adventure 2018 is now open for reservations. Come and see the Tulips and Rhine River Cruise

Our 2011 group trip included a wonderful day cruise on the Rhine. That made us think how wonderful it would be to spend a week on the river, enjoying the various places and sights along the way. After looking at several companies (they all looked very nice, some had better features in one area or another) we finally decided on Viking River Cruises April 25 sailing from Basel, Switzerland to Amsterdam, Holland. This date will allow us a post-cruise stay in Amsterdam - in time for tulip season! These River Boats are small so it will be a very nice intimate gathering. So far we have 20 cabins that are booked. (There really is no set limit until the boat is full :)

Our travel agent has taken this exact cruise and could not fault anything. Viking also has what seems to be the best air program - allowing for the post-cruise stay in Amsterdam, $395 per person from many departure cities. (THE AIRFARE DEAL EXPIRES THE END OF JULY, but Viking could continue it, though it is not guaranteed.) Viking also offers a 2 night per-cruise stay in Lucerne which will give everyone time to adjust to jet lag and enjoy this beautiful lakeside Swiss city.

Our travel agent, Angie LaValle of World of Travel in Bloomfield Hills, Michigan has blocked a group of rooms on the Viking long-ship Idi, sailing on April 25, 2018 for seven nights. To include the pre-cruise say in Lucerne, the departure date from North America would be Sunday, April 22. Return to the US (or Canada) would be on Sunday, May 6.

On this cruise you will visit the highlights of the legendary Rhine. You will see riverbank castles as you sail by and tour both Marksburg Castle and the ruins of Heidelberg Castle. Enjoy the scenic cruise along the Middle Rhine, home of the legendary "Lorelei." Visit Cologne, the jewel of the Rhine with it awe inspiring cathedral, and experience the lush Black Forest landscape. You'll tour multicultural Strasbourg in France and enjoy the nightlife in Rudesheim's "Drosselgrasse." And finish by exploring Holland's windmills and waterworks. Tours, led by knowledgeable local guides, to all of these are included along with a culture curriculum - with activities such as classical music, a cooking demonstration, glassblowing demonstration, and informative talks. What else is included?

7 nights accommodation in outside staterooms with river view
All port charges and taxes
Three meals daily featuring local specialties (along with American classics)
Wine, beer and soft drinks included with lunch and dinner
Specialty coffee & tea available 24 hours
Laundry service
Bottle water replenished daily
In room TV with movies on demand

On-board facilities include the Viking Lounge with piano entertainment, Viking Bar, a library, sun deck and walking track.

Here are the cruise prices per person:
Window Cabins from $3,324 to $3,424 per person
French Balcony cabins from $3,624 to $3,824 per person
Balcony cabins from $4,024 to $4,224 per person
Veranda suites are $5,824 per person

The pre-cruise stay in Lucerne will be $699 per person and includes hotel, breakfasts, guided walking tour, services of a Viking host and transfers - airport to hotel and hotel to ship. Each cabin on the ship will also receive an on-board credit of $250 to spend as you wish on extras such as cocktails or optional tours.

The deposit is $500 per person when you book. The $395 for airfare needs to be paid by the end of July - unless the offer is extended. Final cruise payment is due October 25.

We will plan a 4 night post-cruise stay in Amsterdam to include the annual tulip display at Kuekenhof Gardens, the Anne Frank house, canal cruises, and more. Once our 2017 trip is completed, we can start on the plans for these 4 days. The cost for this (hotel and activities) will be determined then but we can assure you it will be a good value while providing comfortable and convenient accommodations.

If you have always wanted to experience a river cruise - and would like to join a wonderful group of British car folks, we would love to have you join the group. If you want to book, please call Angie Lavalle at 888-268-7500 and drop me an email to let me know as well. Her email address is If you have any questions, drop us a line at .

On The Borderline by Rick Astley/118

Our good friend Rick Astley of British Car Electrical Book fame also has a funny side when he is not delving into the electrical issues of British automotive mysteries.

Rick has been doing these cartoons for our local MG Club for years and I thought that they might be cute to share and Rick gave us permission to publish them. They tend to be leaning to the Detroit/Windsor area but I think they are very humorous and as you can see Rick and his MGB along with his lovely wife are usually the personalities in the cartoons. They are all in fun and we hope you enjoy.

Oversize Shipping

On April 11, 2013 We were notified by Moss that their oversize fee structure would be put into place that day. (it has always been there to some extent, but now is formal.) This has been coming for some time now since the cost of shipping has steadily been rising and the carriers have continued to reduce the size requirements for standard packaging.

You will notice when you check out on our website (also on the Moss website and in the new Moss catalogs - available for PDF downloading on their or our website - click on the car logos to download) oversize parts are indicated and the extra cost for shipping them. Note there may be some parts that they have have not indicated as oversize but actually are. If they charge us for an oversize fee we may have to bill you for the fee and will then add it to the oversize fee notations on our site for future reference (we are never told in advance.)

LBCarCo always will attempt to give you the best prices and shipping rates whenever possible and we are also looking for avenues to save you, our customers money. Some of these cost saving methods are our Loyalty Program, slight delays in shipping to consolidate your order for more economical shipping when possible, shipping by a different carrier such as post when possible and more. We will be constantly monitoring this new program and will tweak it as needed.

This is very rare but on orders shipped by air that are over oversize, by weight or dimensions, we reserve the right to charge actual shipping. Usually shipments via air are considered oversize if over 12 x 12 x 12". Please ask us for a quote on air shipping in advance or we will notify you if you have requested this on your order by checking the confirm carriage before shipping block.

All quotations on shipping are approximate since actual shipping cost may vary some depending on fuel surcharges, actual size and weight once packed and when the order is actually shipped. Every effort has been made to provide accurate information. We reserve the right to correct typographical errors and will not be held liable for inaccuracy of pricing, descriptions or applications.

LBCarCo Gallery of Stars - Is Your LBC a Star, Upload it Here! WE WANT YOUR LBC!!

Is your LBC a Star? Well we all know that each and every one of our little beauties is a star in our own eyes. Take a LOOK at our NEW gallery set up for our customers and friends to show off their pride and joys. Each week customers send me images to show me their newly done restoration (with parts from LBCarCo of course) or just to let me know what their LBC looks like. Now you can display YOUR LBC for everyone to see. We have had numerous requests for this feature over the years and now it is here. There are categories for most of the marques as well as an other British Category and of course a British Motorcycle category too.

This Issues Car Star is our (Jeff and Jan's) 1969 BSA Firebird Scrambler. We purchased this in 2006 and started taking it to shows as it weighed a heck of a lot less than a car. We took it around with us for many years. I still ride it around once in a while on Monday nights when I go riding with 3-4 other friends that have Harley's. (When I don't ride the BSA with them I ride on my Vespa GT300.)

We also have included a FOR SALE category that will allow your image and any notes on your LBC to be posted for 30 days from upload date. We really hope you like these features.

To access the gallery, to view or to upload your image, please click on the word GALLERY on the Blue Top Bar of our website from any page. Once it is uploaded it will be reviewed and once approved will be released. This should only take a day or less. Have fun! Jan and I can't wait to see all your LBC's.

LBCarCo Tech Tips - Each Chatter a New Reader Submitted Tech Tip! (WE NEED TECH TIPS PLEASE)

Tech Tip this issue is from Richard Lipow. Thanks Richard ($20.00 will be credited to your LBCarCo account) Please contact us ASAP for further info.

How to Dislodge Your Head Tip

Here's a tip for removing stubborn heads. The heads on British engines are notorious for being difficult to remove. The studs only compound the problem.

Remove the valve cover, head nuts, and rocker assembly. Disconnect the spark plug leads and take the plugs out. Feed a small rope through the spark plug for the first and fourth cylinders. Crank the engine and the head should pop loose. That's it.

Please Keep those TIPS and Humorous Stories coming, WE ALWAYS NEED THEM!

You can earn a $20 purchase credit for each Tip or Story that is published in our weekly mailing. Please send your tech tips or other submission to me at put the words Tech Tip or Story in the subject line please. If you don't currently have an account with LBCarCo you can still make a submission. We will provide your credit of $20.00 (only one credit may be used per order/shipment, not valid for subscriptions) any time you should purchase something online from LBCarCo. Humorous Story or an article about and picture of your first LBC you would like to share with our audience, drop me a note along with the submission. They should be no more than 500 to 1,000 words. If we use it we will provide you with a $20 LBCarCo purchase credit.

Tech Tips are a service of LBCarCo and our friends and customers. They are provided on a use at your own risk basis. These tech tips may be reprinted in club publications as long as credit is given to Little British Car Co, LTD along with reference to our website and the individual that provided the tip.
