LBCarCo Anniversary Adventure XXII - Europe and Rhine Cruise - Fall 2026

Itinerary for the LBCarCo 2026 Rhine River Adventure

Below is information on the trip we are planning for a late October 2026 Rhine River cruise. We enjoy being with a group of interesting people and at this point we want everything included - no schlepping bags or trying to find a cab. Options range from just the 7 night cruise (airfare on your own) to a full 2 week trip with 3 night pre-stay in the Italian Lakes (Lake Maggiore), a 7 night cruise from Basel, Switzerland to Amsterdam, Netherlands, a post-cruise stay in Amsterdam for 2 nights with flights and land transfers included. We've tried to make this as all-inclusive as possible for seamless travel experience for those who wish while knowing that some may want to do more of the arrangements on their own. You could also choose only the pre cruise stay or the post cruise stay in Amsterdam.

Lakes

Trip dates cruise only:

Trip dates full 2 week experience:

Cost for two people, based on double occupancy ranges from around $5,500 for 7 night cruise only for the lowest category standard cabin (add $1,000 per person for Viking round trip air* and land transfers) to around $15,000 for a two week vacation with balcony cabin, round trip airfare*, stay in the Italian Lakes pre-cruise and stay in Amsterdam post-cruise.

A standard cabin does not have a balcony but does have a window and is around 150 square feet. Balcony cabins are around 205 square feet.

As long as flights are booked with the cruise package, transfers on land to and from the river longboat would be included.

*Add approximately $200 person for midwest departures and $300 per person for west coast departures.

If you have sailed Viking before - river or ocean - it's $100 less person. If in the last year, $200 less per person.

The pre-stay would include 3 nights at a 4 star hotel with breakfast, private boat rides, visits to historic sites, walking tours and assistance from the tour director. At the end there would be a scenic drive with views of the Alps, a stop in Lucerne and then on to Basel to join the longboat.

Longboat

On the longboat, there will be several stops in Germany, a stop in France and a stop in the Netherlands before arriving in Amsterdam. Stops include the Black Forest, Cologne, Strasbourg, Dutch windmills and the charming German town of Rudesheim. A highlight is the day spent traveling through the most scenic stretch of the Rhine, complete with castle ruins and hillside vineyards. Narration of the highlights is provided. One guided excursion, usually in the morning, at each stop is included; additional afternoon excursions can be purchased, but most prefer free time in the afternoon to enjoy the longboat or explore on your own.

All staterooms include free wifi (speed will vary), TV with movies on demand and live channels, 110/220 outlets and USB ports, hair dryer, heated bathroom floor, safe refrigerator, daily bottled water, twice daily housekeeping, robe and slippers on request.

All onboard meals are included featuring regional specialties. Beer, wine and soft drinks are included at lunch and dinner. There is a full bar where other beverages can be purchased. Specialty coffees and teas are always available. Port taxes are included. There are onboard enrichment lectures and destination performances. Before dinner each day a talk on the next day's destination is provided.

Optional - but well deserved gratuities are the only additional onboard expense in addition to a small onboard shop.

Amsterdam

Upon arrival in Amsterdam after breakfast on day 8, transfer from the longboat to the airport will be provided with Viking Air if not choosing the Amsterdam stay.

If staying on in Amsterdam, there would be a 2 night stay with breakfast in a centrally located 4 star hotel. A walking tour will be included and again a tour director will be available to offer suggestions - museums, canal cruises, restaurants and so on. If you haven't visited the Louwmann Museum in The Hague - the world's oldest private car collection - is well worth a visit and you can easily do so by train.

After 2 nights in Amsterdam, the cruise package would be completed and you would transfer to the airport for flights home. This would be a two week trip in total.

An additional option would be to spend a few days in London after the 2 week trip.
